Cutting Fashion Look #7: Red Dress

My last and final look for the Cutting Fashion show! It's taken a little bit to do it, but I'm glad I've blogged about each of these individually. They all deserved their own posts, especially with all the work I spent on them!

This dress was my last one, I guess the showstopper in a way. I love the little details in this dress, like the asymmetrical hemline and the extra blue accents on the sleeve and neckline of the dress. I think it's a fun dress, and it definitely was a little bit different, in a good way I hope! Here are the photos.

I don't know if any of you would like to see it, but I have a video of the show that I'll post in the next few days. I totally forgot I had it until I saw it as I was moving out of my old apartment and into my new one. I'll try and get that up soon! Thanks for all the comments I get on these looks. I never know what to say to super nice comments, but I appreciate them more than you know. So thanks :)

Cutting Fashion Look #6: LBD (Little Black Dress)

Every girl needs a little black dress as part of her wardrobe, am I right? So of course I had to include one in my own collection. I made this black dress exactly how I'd want a black dress to be for me. This was probably the look that I was most excited to wear after the show was over, and I've definitely already worn it quite a few times. This week I wore it to work and got a ton of compliments on it, which made me feel good. It feels great when people tell you that you look cute, but when people say that the dress you're wearing (that you made!) is cute and even ask where you got it, well...that's really something to make you smile.

I was lucky enough to have my sister model for me in the show so I had her wear this dress! Personally I think she looked killer in it, no? I probably would have given her the dress had I not wanted it so much for myself haha.

I found this fabric at Walmart actually, and fell in love with it (never mind the price tag that said $2/yard...). The front is cute, but the back is definitely the fun part of it all. I included an exposed zipper just like I did with my other garments in the collection and the top half of the back was made up of a pretty silky jacquard fabric. Also, the dress is more fitted than the photoshoot pictures show--I took it in a little more after the shoot.

Sketch (the actual dress turned out very different from my original sketch. Most of the other garments stayed pretty similar from the sketch to the construction):

By the way, thanks so much for all the comments on my last cutting fashion post about my black and white dress! I was really surprised but really happy about all the great feedback I got about it. Thank you! I love getting nice comments, they are the best. :)

Cutting Fashion Look #5: Black and White Dress

This dress may have been my favorite one in the collection. It was probably the most creative one out of all them too. I actually designed this dress like two years ago, but I came back to it when designing this collection and knew it would be perfect. This dress was probably the most well made and executed dress out of them all and I'm super proud of it. Here are photos of the dress with my model Sahara wearing it.

Let me know what you think of it in the comments! Also, I made a facebook page for my designs, called Kailee C Designs. You can go see it here and if you wanna like it that'd be kind of cool. :) I'm in the midst of creating a logo and a website for it too, so we'll see how long that takes and how it goes!

Cutting Fashion Look #4: Yellow Shorts

I really am trying to blog regularly, and have actually been doing pretty well with it lately. In the past, I've found myself not blogging for like a month and then I come back to it totally behind and not even knowing what to post about because there is too much. But yeah, I've been getting at least two posts a week in, which I feel pretty good about. And more than that makes me feel like an overachiever! Yeah, the bar for success for me is pretty low. Three blog posts and I'm sailing smoothly in life haha.

Anyways, that being said, I really need to try and post all of these Cutting Fashion posts. It's about time, considering the show was over two months ago. So my goal is to get the rest of these posted in the next two weeks. There's only three more posts after this one, so it shouldn't be that difficult.

These are the second pair of shorts I made for the show, and I really liked these a lot. I cannot wait for it to get warm so that I can wear them! I don't know what else to say about these...I got the fabric on the side of the shorts from this Home Fabrics store for like $2/yard, which is totally unheard of, especially for gorgeous woven fabric like that. It's the same fabric that's on the back of the shirt paired with the red shorts. Once again on this one, I wish I had done a little more with the top. I didn't give myself enough time and I feel like my creativity was pretty burned out by the time I got to the point of making the shirt, so it was fairly plain. I still thought it was fine though...the back had a cool black exposed zipper so that was fun. But enough of me, let's have the pictures do the talking! Thanks to Kimberly for being the amazing model!

Cutting Fashion Look #3: Red Shorts

So maybe it's a not so secret of mine that I love shorts, and despite the sometimes craziness it is to sew them, I love making and designing shorts. I had actually only made one pair before the show (here they are!) but they are like one of my favorite things ever, fit perfectly, are super cute, and are totally modest. I have been waiting for summer and warm weather so I can wear them again! Luckily, I think that day will be here soon. :) But yeah, anyways, shorts are great. I like making them too because a lot of times you can't find cute shorts that go to your knee. There are plenty of shorts out there that are cute OR that go to your knee but there are far and few between that contain both.

The shirt part of this look was not my favorite. I think had I given myself more time, it could have been more interesting, but in a time crunch I made a white shirt with a cool stripe in the back. The shorts were the main thing I wanted to showcase so I suppose it was okay.

Oh and it didn't happen with the first few looks, but you'll notice that some of my designs were changed as I made them. Obviously that happened somewhat with this one.

Also, I know they don't look super fitted here, but I took them in a bit after the photoshoot.

Cutting Fashion Look #2: Yellow and Red Printed Dress

I have very exciting news to share...I'm doing another fashion show in April! Yay! It's with this great organization called RAWartists, where they showcase different artist's work (including fashion design) at their shows throughout the year. The show I'm doing is going to be in Salt Lake on April 25. I'm really excited for it and hopefully I'll have time to make a few more pieces to show. It should be fun! Here's the info for the show and here is the link for my profile. Tickets are $10 so if you want to come, I would love the support and it would be great to see you!

Now, on to more fashion design topics, I'm talking about my next Cutting Fashion look (btw, all of my Cutting Fashion looks will be featured at the show on April 25, so if you want to see them in person, please come!).

This look was actually the first one I sketched in my collection and it was also the first one I made for it. This one was pretty simple, but I liked it because the waist seam sat lower than where your actual waist would be but higher than your hips. I wish that I could have made this dress a little more flattering, but overall, I think it turned out pretty good. A lot of people told me this was their favorite one in the collection. Thanks to my model Ellen! She seriously pulled it off great and the dress looked perfect on her.

Cutting Fashion Look #1: Red and Navy Blue Dress

I know you are probably kind of tired of hearing all about this fashion show, but I wanted to write a post about each individual look. And then after that, this might be all done with. Okay, actually fashion design for me will obviously never be done, but soon I'm hoping to start working on a few new looks.

I sketched this look after I found the perfect fabric (shown below on the model) that I also used in another dress. Funny story, when I was trying to decide what color scheme and theme I wanted to do for my collection, I was having a hard time deciding. I was considering doing something with like mint green and mustard yellow and stuff like that, but those colors are super trendy right now, and I wanted to do something of my own accord and not just because they were the popular colors (as cute as they might be). So one night I actually had a dream and the colors red, light yellow, and navy blue came into my head and the perfect pattern with all of them together did too. After that day, I knew what color scheme I wanted to do for my collection. It was perfect. So I went searching in all the fabric stores and found the below fabric. It wasn't an exact match, but it was pretty close.

This garment was supposed to be a little more fitted in the top, and if I'd had more time, it would have been. But for the most part I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I plan on taking it in a little more now that everything's done and I have time to fix it.

Tell me: what do you think? Like it? Yes or no? I would love feedback :)

Oh and thanks to my model Breanna for modelling this dress!

Cutting Fashion [Part 4]: Mall Show

A week after the BYU show we were lucky enough to also be able to do a show at Provo Towne Centre Mall. Only 5 out of the 12 designers participated, so it was a lot shorter, but we had a lot of fun and I couldn't have been happier to do another show.

All my same models did it, except for one, so I have to give huge thanks and props to my roommate Heidi (in the red dress) for stepping in at the last minute to do the show! These girls seriously are the greatest, I love them.

It was fun to do the show in a different environment. There were chairs on both sides of the runway, but most the audience were people just doing their shopping and onlookers from above the balcony. There were a ton of them, though they went as quickly as they came haha. I liked doing it in a mall though, because it was more of a fashion-y (I know, it's definitely not a word) place and the people there obviously like clothes because they were in a place where you can shop to your heart's content for them.

After the show was over, we took a few more pictures together, models and designer. I think I kept wanting to take pictures because I kind of just didn't want it to be over.

And now it's done..for now at least. I would love to do some more shows at malls with the other designers, but we'll see if it happens or not. I hope that Cutting Fashion becomes a yearly thing though, and if it does, I definitely want to do it again next year for my last year (next year really will be my last one, I swear) at BYU. Either way, I love designing clothes. Love it SO much. And if anything, Cutting Fashion has just inspired me more to keep designing. The show may be done, but the designing has just begun. :)
