[Hunger Games Party] It's PARTY Time!

I'm sure you've been waiting to hear about/see pictures of the party itself. Sorry, I was busying myself with WATCHING THE MOVIE on Friday at midnight and then recovering from the awesome-ness of it! But a week later, here is the last Hunger Games party post!

The party was so much fun. I have to say that it might've even been as good or better than our Harry Potter party! People started coming at 8 pm when the party started, entering their name in the reaping as soon as they arrived and also whenever they ate food. From 8:30 on, the party really filled up with people, because we told them that the reaping would be starting at 9 and if they wanted to be included in that, they had to come before then to enter.

There were SO many people! Our apartment got really packed and busy, which was crazy and also super fun.

 We started drawing names for the reaping a little after 9 pm. I drew one or two names from each cup, depending on how many names were in it (some cups only had one name). Afterward if there were some districts with only one tribute, then we called for volunteers so that we ended up with 24 tributes. Thank goodness it was warm outside because it was so packed in the apartment that we had to move out there to spread out so everyone could see.

The first activity we did was this cornucopia challenge. Each district got two papers that said supplies on them and then they had to keep track of how many points they got. The top 6 districts were still in and the bottom 6 were out, so that we were left with twelve tributes. If I had done this differently, I probably would have given them more supplies or something like that, but it still worked out pretty well.

After that, we had the top remaining tributes answer trivia questions from the book using these questions (I got it from the same website as the cornucopia game). I'd ask a question, and whoever rose their hand answered first. If they answered correctly, then they got to "hit" someone else. If they answered wrong, they got a hit. And once a tribute got three hits they were out. I came up with the idea for this game myself and it worked out really well! They had to have knowledge of the book but we were still able to incorporate the killing aspect of it all (without actually killing anybody obviously).

We ended up with the top tributes and they totally pulled a berries trick on us! Haha I asked the last question and they both rose their hands up together, which means we had two victors, just like in the book! I didn't even plan this, but I thought it was really funny and clever. What more perfect way to win the hunger games? :)

 And then after the games were done (which everyone loved by the way), we just had socializing and party stuff. So much fun!

By about 10:15, the party died down. It was set to end at 11, but I didn't mind that they left a little earlier. It felt so good because so many people came up to me right before they left telling me how much fun they had and how great of a party it was. Loved it! My roommates and a few others were just left over by the night's end.

In short, it was a wonderful night. Definitely one of the best! I don't know why, but I really love planning parties, especially when it's for something that I love. It made me happy to see so many people having fun and knowing that I planned it all! And also, I have to thank my roommates for helping me out with it all because there's NO way I could have done it by myself. So...Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor. :)

[Hunger Games Party] Costumes

It's the moment you've all been waiting for....time for the costumes! Want to see how me, my roommates, and other party guests dressed up for the event? Well here goes!

In the invitation, we gave people a lot of options and ideas for how they could dress up. They could dress in reaping clothes (like a dress, or a button up shirt and slacks), like their district trade, or a capitol citizen. Many of the people came dressed in regular clothes but we had quite a few in costume as well!

My roommates dressed in reaping dresses. They went to DI and got dresses, and my roommate Olivia just borrowed one of Heidi's dresses. Coincidentally, the dress Talya found from the DI was the same one Olivia was wearing, and Kelsey and Heidi's dresses were almost the same color, so they were both matching pairs! It was pretty cute actually. They got theirs from DI as well and the dresses were too longs so they hemmed them (Kelsey didn't have time to hem hers so she just cut it off which looked fine as well).

Pretty much everyone else that came dressed up was dressed like their district trade. I loved seeing the costumes people came in!

District 3 represented technology by wearing any kind of cords they could wrap around themselves. I wish I had a full body shot, because they had cords wrapped around their legs as well. It looked so cool! Susan (far right) even made her own circuit so that it was playing music from her. Sweet!

One citizen from District 11 came dressed as corn, representing agriculture. I loved her costume, it was so creative!

And what did I dress up as, you might ask?

It was the obvious (and AWESOME) choice to dress up as Effie since I had planned the party and was pretty much organizing it all. I found the crazy and wonderful Effie-ish pink headband at Ross (who would've though, right??), the shirt came from DI (it had long sleeves before and I shortened it to short sleeves) and I already had the pink skirt and shoes. I curled all my hair and pinned it to one side. I have to admit that this picture doesn't completely do the costume justice because it looked really great! I got so many compliments on it. :)

So I'll just say it again, I LOVED my costume. So much. I didn't give you too many pictures of it here, but when I post about the actual party tomorrow, there will be plenty! So no worries :) Happy Hunger Games!! (because GUESS WHAT. The movie comes out tonight! Eeeep!!!) Are you going to see it, and are you dressing up? If so what as? How was Halloween for you all? Mine was pretty much fabulous. Want to know what I went as?....

Wonder Woman!!!

I think this became my new favorite costume of all the costumes I've done. And that's saying something, considering I've been a 50's girl for like 5 years of my life (one of them being last year). I loved it. Want to hear how it all came together? I found the dress part (the pink top with the pink skirt with the stars on it) at DI for $3. Total score! It's actually a little girl's costume, size 10. But it fit me and I loved it, I couldn't turn it away! But me being the procrastinator I am, I didn't really do anything else with the costume. So then yesterday finally, on Halloween day, I was about to succumb and be lumberjacks with some of my roommates (which was pretty funny, I have to say) and then decided that no, Wonder Woman was sweet and I was going to do it!

So with my inspiration as this (I looked up "pink wonder woman costume" in google images and about a gazillion pictures like this one showed up...it may be a little girl but it was the perfect go-to!) I set out to find something to go with the costume. And after going to DI again for a quick look around, I decided there was no way I was going to find anything too great to go with my costume from there, it was just too specific. So then I thought, you know, I can sew, so why don't I just make the rest of the stuff? So I did! I went to the fabric store and got some white, silver, and hot pink pleather to make the boots, the arm things, the belt, and the headband. I wanted some hot pink tights so I headed over to Target for those and found some great glittery pink tights in the girls section (they fit perfectly yes, and also they were the only hot pink tights left in the store!

When I got home it all surprisingly only took about 2 hours to sew it all, which is pretty good. The costume came together very nicely and I think one of the reasons I loved it so much is because I made a lot of it myself!

Anyways, I went to a trunk or treat my ward did and then went trick or treating to a few houses with other people in my ward. I am falling asleep because I'm writing this the night before you'll read it, so here's are some more pictures from the night.

Ahh, guess what? It's November! Which means Thanksgiving is here! And Christmas is TWO MONTHS away! Wow. Time seriously just flies in this world!
