Ok, so as I've told you, my roommate, Katie, and I threw a super fun Harry Potter party on Friday. And because I love Harry Potter so much and I want to tell everyone about this, I'm gonna write about a little part of the party every day this week. Be excited! Today you get to hear about how we handed out the invitations.
So technically in college, everyone skips handing out invites for things and just makes an event on facebook or something. Which is totally fine! But when I saw
this idea on pinterest (btw, most of the ideas we got for our party, I pinned on my
Harry Potter pinterest board so you can look at that if you want) I knew we had to hand out our invitations this way. There was just no other option! What is cooler than getting an invitation to Hogwarts by owl? Um..nothing!
So we set out to find about 25 helium balloons for a decent price. Turns out helium balloons are expensive! We went to about 4 stores before we finally checked BYU Campus Floral where we got them for $0.60 each. We planned to hand out the invitations Monday night but then it got late and the stores closed and we couldn't find cheap helium balloons, so then we handed them out Tuesday night, which turned out to be fine. We also made an event on facebook so that all our other friends who didn't get an awesome owl invitation could know when the party was as well.

I made a microsoft word document of the invitation but didn't take pictures when we printed them out..but this is what it looked like (also with a border around it and a Hogwarts watermark in the background):

Transportation
to Hogwarts can take place by portkey, apparation, the Hogwarts Express, or
broomstick. Please make sure your arrival destination is correctly

The
surrounding area is well protected by Memory Charms and it will be safe to wear
normal wizard attire. However if you prefer, you may come incognito and arrive
dressed in the muggle manner. You will receive your school supply list and
house sorting upon arrival. Students may bring an owl, a cat, or a toad.
Parents are reminded that first years are not allowed their own broomsticks.
If
you are unable to attend, please respond by owl. Thank you, and we look forward
to your arrival at Hogwarts.

Haha we tried to make them pretty legit. I kind of got an idea of how I wrote the invitation from here. Funny/Awkward story: When we were printing out the invitations on campus, the printer was going sooo slow! Like printing a page every 30 seconds. It was ridiculous. And this poor boy was waiting to print his stuff so he had to wait for our 25 pages of invitations to print for like 15 minutes until his paper started printing. And of course once his pages started coming out they went fast! Go figure haha. Anyways, we rolled up the invitations all scroll-like and tied the balloons to them. The blank balloons looked pretty funny just floating around with rolled up papers attached to them.
And then the fun part! Katie and I, and our roommate Kelsey all drew owl faces on the balloons! They looked so funny and cute and it was fun to be creative with how the owls looked and such.
And then we went out to deliver them! We (me, Katie, Kelsey, and Heidi--another one of our roommates) put on our dark hoodies and set out. We delivered invitations to just people in our ward (for those who don't know what that is, a ward is how our church divides people, so in our ward, there are two Provo apartment complexes) cuz it could have gotten crazy otherwise. We took the "owls" to the doors and had to duct tape them down because otherwise they would have flown away! Ha ;) And then we all just doorbell ditched each floor. It was sooooo fun!

And that is the end of the invitation part of the party! Later on, we got feedback from our ward members that people looooved the invitations and it made their day to get an "owl." So invitations were definitely a success!! Be sure to check in tomorrow to read about the food (prob the best part)!
