Exciting News!

Sooooo...GUESS WHAT. There's this competition called "Sewvivor" on the Family Ever After blog, so I decided to enter my purple dress, really it was not a big deal. It was just a taking a little chance. Over 170 people entered and only 10 were going to make it. And we know how talented everyone in blogging world is and I looked at the entries and there were quite a few way better than mine.

Well today they announced the winners and in my head I knew I wasn't going to win, and then as I'm scrolling down, BAM! There was my purple dress and a link to my blog! I was so surprised but SO happy. It really just made my whole day a bajillion times happier. So I get to participate in Sewvivor, isn't that so great?!

Basically what it is, is a competition where you have different challenges every week in April and then the people with the least votes are out for that week. Based after the real show Survivor! If you want more info, you can click on the button on my sidebar (that says I'm in the top ten! Really, I'm just super excited about it!). So pretty much when voting time comes around, I would looove your help in voting for me! I want to make it through as many rounds as I can and I'm going to work really hard to make AH-mazing projects.

Anyways, that's all for today. Sorry I've been bad at posting, but just so you know, I'm always posting regularly at my other blog Kiki's Krazy World if you want to follow me there! See you later, alligators!

(YAY!) :)

Loss

I just said goodbye to one of my very best friends for a year and a half, and dang it is so sad. :( Don't you wish you could sometimes just make life stop? Especially other people's lives, because then they could never leave you.

The thing about loss is that in a way, it's good. I mean say someone is leaving your life for a time, or even forever, and you don't really care that much. You never really got to love that person. But if you really miss them or if you truly feel pain and sadness over their being gone, then it means that you at least loved them and you got to experience times that made you happy while you were in them. It's hard but good. I feel like that's how most good things in life come--you have to experience the hard side of them if you really want to appreciate it.

So to Jessica, I'm gonna miss you so much but you are gonna be the best missionary ever. A year and a half isn't forever, right?? :)

It's Beginning to Look Like Autumn

it started to rain :)
Well, its definitely starting to feel like fall around here! Its been raining quite a bit the past few days and it's been getting cooler too. The leaves on the ground are getting crunchy and turning into lovely shades of yellow and orange. Midterms are in full swing, Homecoming is here, football games are at their peak, and Halloween decorations are covering store shelves like no other holiday has ever existed. Pumpkin flavored things are in almost every restaurant and every girl is pulling out her rainboots and cardigans for the cooler weather. I like it a lot. :) I feel like it's supposed to be fall and it's a time that I really enjoy. For one, my birthday. And then it means that lots of holidays are coming up: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. And holidays mean family, breaks from school, fun, and happiness (and fun shopping too!).

Probably the one thing that makes me sad about fall though is the fact that winter is just around the corner. After Christmas, it's winter semester, snow everywhere, no breaks or holidays, cold, not a lot of fun events like sports or stuff, and more sickness. :( Winter in Utah is what makes me want to live in California. But at least for now, fall is one of the reasons that reminds me why I love Utah too. I just hope it stays for a long long time...we could postpone snow until Christmas and I wouldn't mind it one bit!!

And random movie talk now...I watched Titanic today (don't worry, I skipped that one part, if ya know what I mean--it's a lot easier to do when watching it on the computer) because I haven't seen it in a while and I was kind of wanting to. Now I'm just thinking, "Why did I want to watch it again?" Titanic is one of those movies that I think I really love and is a good movie to watch every once in a while, but then for a few days after watching it, I can't stop thinking about all the sad and scary parts. Man, it was so intense and sad to watch. Another bad reason for not having seen it in a while is that I can remember what happens but not enough to convince myself that it will still happen. Like I still get anxious when I'm waiting to see if Jack will survive not drowning in the little basement room and I still get nervous because I'm wanting Rose to just blow the whistle so she survives. Of course, the movie always follows it's plot the way it has before but it still makes me anxious every time. Titanic really is such a good movie. It's very gripping and very sad and it's definitely a nail-biter. It's also a wonderful love story. I can't help but watch it and think how grateful I am that I was not born in that time and that I was not on that ship. I also can't help but just feel for every person on that ship, because I know what's going to happen the whole time, but they don't know. I like it because it focuses on the story of Rose and Jack, but not the entire time. It also shows the other stuff going on the ship, with the captain, the band, all the people on the lifeboats, the people jumping in the water, the crew, etc. Ahh I think I've convinced myself of the amazing-ness of this movie again! haha.

I think the lesson I learn from the movie and story of it (and I don't mean this in an insulting way at all, it's just my observation) was just that the Titanic was a very worldly thing. It was a huge fancy ship and said by many to have been "unsinkable." When they received the warning for the icebergs at night, they didn't stop like other boats, they just kept on going. They were too prideful to have enough lifeboats for all the passengers because it would have cluttered the deck. There were so many rich people on deck that were actually annoyed when told to put on their life jackets and no one wanted to believe that their magnificent ship was sinking. I guess it kind of makes me think about the Second Coming (okay, I'm getting a little churchy here..) and how like the people on Titanic, we need to be prepared, or else we're not going to make it. There were so many people by the end just jumping off the huge boat or clambering into life boats trying to save themselves. Some people didn't even try because they knew they wouldn't succeed. It's so sad. But it teaches me that I need to be ready for that now so that when it does happen, I don't freak out over it because I'll be ready and know it's coming. Sorry was that too LDS missionary sharing/churchy for you? I don't really talk about that stuff on here very often but maybe it's good to, because it is a part of I am and what I think about. And just to clarify, I'm in no way saying the people on the Titanic were bad or that they deserved to die. Not at all! But I do think they could have been more prepared for the outcome of it or could have done so many things to prevent it, as I'm sure many people know. It was just an analogy in my head. Wow, but really, it's a good movie. If you've never seen it (its PG-13 fyi), I'd recommend watching it because I think it's one of those movies that every person should see.

Anyways, why do I write SO much? So much that probably no one reads. Oh well, sorry for all the words taking up space on your browser. I hope it didn't drive you crazy! Have a great Thursday, it's almost the weekend!!!

Happy Being Me

So yesterday was like one of the best days of my life. Or it was at least just a really good day.

Guys, I'm just so happy right now. Happy with myself. Happy with life. It feels wonderful! {No, there is no boy that is the cause of this}

Its funny looking back on all the posts of this blog. I started this blog back in August, and we have both come a long way since then.

Back then, this blog had 1 follower {me}, the header was different, the pictures were smaller and less well done, and the outfits were okay. I was spending my time making cute little fabric flowers.

Now this blog has 118 followers, I love my header, I take better pictures, and the outfits are better. I spend so much of my time sewing and refashioning. I have refashioned so many things and yesterday I wore a dress that I made and designed all by myself, not even with a pattern. And I loved it. And so did everyone else. I got a billion gajillion compliments on it, and they really made me feel good because they were complimenting my talent. I felt so confident wearing that dress and showing the world what I can do and what I love. I love fashion soooooo much!

I've also changed a lot. Fall semester was an incredibly hard and sad semester for me. I lost my best friend which really left me with no friends. I was lonely. I look back on those posts and read what I wrote and see the pictures and I'm just filled with a feeling a sadness, because that's how I was feeling during the time. But honestly, thank goodness for this blog, because it was probably the thing that saved me during that semester because it was one of the only happy things in my life.

But I've grown a lot. I'm really happy now. I feel like I have so many close friends who I love and adore and could call my best friends. I know what I love and I do what I love. I'm just happy. And when I look at the posts that I've written from the past few weeks and months, that's the feeling that fills me...happiness.

{Oh did you want to see the dress? :) Hehe... Well you're just going to have to wait until I post about it in the next few days. I didn't have time to take pictures of it because I had to do stuff after work and then I came home--like with my family--and it was already dark. And this dress deserves some wonderful pictures because it's a wonderful dress. Expect pictures in the next couple of days.}

P.S. Enter my contest! It's gonna be fun and it's so easy to enter! {Forever 21 gift card if you win :)}

Just Stuff

Haha..so these pictures were taken in my roommates' room (I don't think they read this, but if they do, then sorry and thank you for letting me take pictures in it!) because one of them wasn't home and the other is in London until this weekend and I didn't know where to take my pictures and I'm sick of doing them all in the same places.Anyways.

Guess what? I might be going to see Taylor Swift in September because she's coming to Utah!! Gah! My sister and I are pretty big fans (the only singer I love more than T Swift is Carrie Underwood of course). But we have to somehow fork up some money because the tickets are a bit pricey. Definitely worth it though, I'm sure! We want to try and get floor tickets, because what would be better than that? Life would practically be fulfilled. What concerts have you guys been to that you absolutely loved? Or what concerts do you want to go to that you know you'd absolutely love? ;)

I have to go get ready for work and life but I thought I'd tell you guys to be excited...because I have a surprise coming in the next few days and it involves all of YOU! Be excited..be very excited, because I can't wait to tell you all about it! Soooo keep reading, or ya know, you could even press that little button that says, "follow" which pretty much puts you on my favorite people list. Just sayin'.

Reasons Why I'm Cool

I don't really brag about myself that often, but I'm going to right now. Deal with it. :) I'm cool because...
-I haven't worn the same outfit since the end of August
-I have the BEST and funnest job ever at the bookstore in the women's clothes right now
-Boys are in my life...lots of them ;)
-Curly hair (it's naturally straight, which is also cool)
-I saw the So You Think You Can Dance auditions in SLC. Super cool.
-I love Carrie Underwood who is amazingly and awesomely cool.
-I made the yummiest chocolate chip cookies ever on Sunday. The coolest part about that is that the recipe makes like 100 cookies but they are always gone within 5 days MAX
-The shoes I'm wearing in these pics
-I have awesome roommates
-I'm going home this weekend to go to two receptions and also to see Cars 2 BEFORE it comes out for FREE
-I refashion lots of dresses and I'm a little obsessed with it.
-Glee music. I love it.
-I take my own pictures
-I have a purple luggage set
-I hate vegetables (yes, all vegetables) and I'm allergic to shrimp, cats, and dogs.
-There is no one else on earth that is like me. I'm pretty unique. (Hey guess what? That's YOU too!)

Why are you cool? Write about it in a post and give me the link in a comment! Because we're all too awesome and cool to not do it. :)

The Magic Skirt

People, this skirt is magic! Basically it attracts boys and people love it. And I got it from DI for about $5 and all I did was hem it to knee-length instead of pioneer length. One of my coworkers at work (a guy) complimented my outfit and skirt. Two other girls I work with both said I looked super cute today. And I was riding in the elevator with this random hot guy and he said my skirt was super cool. And I love telling people where I got it from because it just makes the skirt that much cooler. Yep, me and my skirt are pretty awesomespice (word borrowed from Lauren). :D

Yesterday at work was cRaZy!!! It's Women Conference this weekend so there have been women all over campus! And of course since I work in the Women's section of the bookstore, we've been working like madness. Yesterday it was so busy that I could barely walk anywhere because it was all crowded. Everyone just loves the Down East Basics clothes, the White Elegance clothes, and all of our clothes. It's nuts, but super fun! I love being able to help lots of people and having stuff to do and being able to meet a lot of nice women. It's really pretty great. Also I'm working lots of hours which means mucho dinero. ;) Hmmm and mucho dinero has many possibilities.... Anyways so I'm a little tired because I worked non-stop for 8 hours yesterday and I'm gonna do it again today. Life will go back to normal after this week is done. Soo..have a great friday!

What are your weekend plans? Want to know what mine are? (BOYS!!!) :D hehe (oh and women at women's conference ha)

Hippie Thinking

Hey friends! How is your week going so far? Pretty much mine is going fabulously because I don't have school and I've just been working and playing lots. :D Summer (even if it doesn't completely feel like it weather-wise) is the BEST. And also, lots of new people moved into my ward, which means lots of new boys!!! Heaven, indeed. I already have my eye set on one haha. Expect an engagement post by next week ;) (I hope you know I'm kidding. I will date a boy for a while--a lot of months or year--before getting engaged!).

I guess though that even though life is pretty happy, there is still so much that I'm trying to work on, because I'm far from perfect and I've got lots of problems. I won't get into details but I just feel like I'm always working on something and always trying to be better. Sometimes I wish it would all just stop and the world and life's troubles would just pause. What I really want is just some peace (and love. the hippies were onto something I think...). Some peace of mind, peace with the world, and peace with myself. Have you ever realized how difficult it is to just feel peace? It's pretty dang hard. And it makes me cry many days.

Yesterday, though, I think I felt a little bit of peace. I went to the Carl Bloch exhibit in the BYU Museum of Art with my roommates and it was so wonderful. It was completely spiritual and peaceful. And I will admit that I did cry a little, but they were good tears. :) You may have heard of him before, but Carl Bloch was a painter and artist back a few hundred years ago who painted tons of beautiful pictures of scenes from Christ's life that are now reprinted and used in church buildings, church magazines, church books, etc. Even if you haven't heard of him, I have no doubt that you would be familiar with several of Carl Bloch's paintings if you saw them. Anyways, this exhibit has been at BYU for a while and very popular, because the original paintings are there. The exhibit ends next week so if you want to go, I'd highly recommend it. My favorite two paintings were these:
Healing at the Pool of Bethesda by Carl Bloch
Gethsemane by Carl Bloch
As I sat there sitting, staring at, and contemplating these paintings and the others, I felt a sense of peace. I realized how much He loves me. And I really am worth it. I honestly have no idea how much I mean to Him. Seeing that Gethsemane picture and seeing the depiction of that moment of suffering made me realize that if Christ can suffer for everyone's sins and go through that much pain, then I can overcome my trials. And the cool thing is that I have Him to help me through it. I will always have him. I think the only thing that truly gives me peace in life is my church. It's all I truly have and it's all I really need and it's all that matters. I love it. :)

I just wanted to share that. It's a good afternote for Easter. :)

A Button-Up and Some Boots

I wore this outfit on Thursday I think? But it's being posted on Sunday just because. I think this weekend was a lazy weekend. Well maybe not. I wore cute stuff but I just didn't take pictures. Which actually, for me is super unusual. Even if I don't post them, I almost always take pictures. I still have some from like two weeks ago that I must post because I made the skirt! Next time I don't take pictures or don't wear a "cute enough outfit" (to my standards anyways) I will post that. It'll be soon friends, I promise.

Hmmm...not sure what else to say. Sundays are great. Don't you all love them? I think one of the best things about being LDS is the fact that you get to rest on Sundays. Some people complain about not being able to go to the store or not being able to do normal stuff on Sundays. And I definitely admit that I'm one of those people sometimes. But on days like today, I really appreciate the fact that we have to rest, even if it is forced. We all need some relaxation in our lives, no? So do me a favor and do something great for yourself today. Paint your nails, take a nap, cook, read, write in your journal, etc! And if you don't have time today make time this week. We will get exhausted and irritable if we don't learn to take care of ourselves every once in a while.

Have a wonderful relaxing Sunday! :)
