Outfit Blogging at It's Finest

I seriously wonder when this craze of "fashion blogging" began (don't worry, I can make fun of it since I used to be a daily "fashion blogger"--if you could call me that, because many of my outfits were less than fashionable haha). Who was the first person who said, "I'm going to take a picture of my outfit every day and then post it on a website for the world to see."? I suppose at first it sounded like a cool idea, and it was. What a cool way to document your day by taking pictures of your outfits! Yes!

I think the monstrosity began when everybody saw how cool these few fashion bloggers were and thought, "hey, I can do that too!" and then half of the women in the US decided they all should do it too. And now it seems like everyone fashion blogs. And that's cool and all, but I suppose it's a little boring to me now.

"model pose"=please never let my arm do that again. It looks much better on my waist or at my side.

 Now I kind of skip over the outfit posts in my google reader and only click on the ones that have substance--stuff that life is really about. Not that life isn't about mustache jewelry and buns atop our heads, but you know. I would hope it's about a little more than just that.

In truth, fashion blogging kind of messed me up and probably did the same thing to society. We all now seem to follow the same trends because they are so readily accessible to us from any blog out there, with just a click on a link. We can't seem to wear a cute outfit one day and just not take a picture of it (soooo guilty of this one. Every time I'm dressed cute I feel like I have to get a picture of it. And not just a crappy phone picture, but pictures like these).

Don't you be chastising me for writing against fashion blogging when you are fashion blogging. Eh.

 I do it too. I mean, c'mon, what is this post? What are these pictures adorning the walls of my blog? I don't think that it's a bad thing to take pictures of our outfits and post them on the internet for everyone to see. But I do think that we should try to be more aware of what is going on around us and realize that we have more to provide to the world than just a smile and a cute outfit.

Just something to think about. But then again, what do I know? This is after all an outfit post. ;)

Some Boots and a Dress

Oh my goodness I totally forgot about these pictures! I wore this outfit a little while ago and took pictures out by the train station. Sometimes I think my favorite outfits are the ones where I can just be casual and wear some rainboots with a dress and socks. It's girly but comfy, which is exactly what I love! I hate wearing things and feeling uncomfortable all day. Fashion shouldn't be about wearing something and it bothers you so much that you can't think about anything else! Those are my two cents for the day. :)

I'm sorry I haven't been the most amazing poster lately. It's hard to make time to take outfit pictures but I need to make time for it and make it a priority, because this blog is important to me. I love you guys...just thought I'd say that. And every comment I get makes me smile. :)

Runways and Birthdays

Just sitting on my couch watching Project Runway right now (while brain-storming for my Sewvivor project!). Do you guys watch it? Who do you want to win/think will win? Personally, my favorite is Mondo. I have loved him ever since he was in Project Runway the first time. And as crazy as Austin is, I really would like him to make it to the top 3. I think he's a talented designer. It'll definitely be a tough decision tonight deciding who makes it to the final three because the four designers there are all pretty good. If I had to choose three though..it'd be Mondo, Austin, and Kenley. I didn't love Kenley a ton at first but she's really grown on me and she keeps coming through each week. Also she's a girl and it wouldn't be nearly as fun have three guys in the finale (although some of them act more feminine than actual girls do hahaha). Guess we'll see! I cannot WAIT for the finale! This season feels like it's gone by incredibly fast so it seems crazy it's already here.

Guess what?! Tomorrow is Barbie's birthday (like the doll)!! In case you don't know me, I collect Barbies and love them so much. I get the Barbie Collector magazine as well, so it's pretty great. And Saturday is Carrie Underwood's birthday! The only thing better than her birthday...is my birthday. Seriously. I told you I love barbies, but I LOVE Carrie Underwood. Let me stop before I you see how crazy I get about CU. So expect a barbie inspired fashion post tomorrow and a Carrie Underwood one on Saturday! After all, it's only customary. :)

Exciting News!

Sooooo...GUESS WHAT. There's this competition called "Sewvivor" on the Family Ever After blog, so I decided to enter my purple dress, really it was not a big deal. It was just a taking a little chance. Over 170 people entered and only 10 were going to make it. And we know how talented everyone in blogging world is and I looked at the entries and there were quite a few way better than mine.

Well today they announced the winners and in my head I knew I wasn't going to win, and then as I'm scrolling down, BAM! There was my purple dress and a link to my blog! I was so surprised but SO happy. It really just made my whole day a bajillion times happier. So I get to participate in Sewvivor, isn't that so great?!

Basically what it is, is a competition where you have different challenges every week in April and then the people with the least votes are out for that week. Based after the real show Survivor! If you want more info, you can click on the button on my sidebar (that says I'm in the top ten! Really, I'm just super excited about it!). So pretty much when voting time comes around, I would looove your help in voting for me! I want to make it through as many rounds as I can and I'm going to work really hard to make AH-mazing projects.

Sparkles with a Skirt

I might have worn this outfit back in December....oops. But I had to post it because it was such a fun outfit. I love my sparkly H&M sweater paired with this happy thrifted skirt (I took it in and made it shorter after buying it from DI). And boots. They're just fun too.

So I'm still going to keep posting on this blog for a while longer for certain reasons. I'm not sure when I will fully transfer everything to my other blog. But if you just want to follow one, I'll be posting these same posts on my other one as well plus more on that one, so I'd recommend following it if you want the most updates. This is my fashion-only blog :)

And it's Friday! Tomorrow night my roommates and I might be going to this thing on campus called the YBall. It's a formal attire event but free, which is super cool. If we do go, I'll be wearing a beautiful coral formal dress that I made so stay tuned!

Man Day

I felt such like a man the day I wore this outfit. Why? Well, the sweater used to be my dad's, I found the boots in the men's shoes section at DI, and I wore almost no makeup this day (except a teeny bit of mascara). So that is about as "manly" as I get. But don't get me wrong, I felt awesome this day. I love the sweater, considering it's from Guatemala and I'm half Guatemala. I love the boots...it rained this day and they completely kept the water out--it was wonderful! And wearing no makeup felt pretty stress free and amazing. Oh yes. It was actually the first time I haven't worn makeup all day in public for like 5 years. Crazy huh? I need to do this more often!

On a more girly note, I've been sewing a lot! I'm in the middle of making a super cute navy and white dress (without a pattern, like usual) and I've just been designing it and coming up with it as I go. I'm thinking it'll look pretty great when it's all done and I of course will post it on here! I also sewed a purple ball gown for a very special friend...perhaps I will show you a picture or two of her wearing the dress? Stay tuned for that. Oh and don't worry, I haven't forgotten that I promised to tell you the story of why I am so annoyed with DownEast Basics these days (back in this post) so stay tuned for that as well! It's a story you do NOT want to miss.

Anywho, as I write this, my eyes droop more and more. So I'll bid you adieu until tomorrow :)

P.S. Just one last thought. It's 11/11/11 TOMORROW! I'm seriously freaking out and so excited over this! What are you guys gonna do for it, anything exciting? I definitely want to do something fun for this most momentous occasion!!

Fancyness

So yesterday after I got off work (which was soooo busy because it was graduation so everyone and their dog was in the bookstore buying stuff. Where people get this money, I will never know, but I'm grateful cuz it gives me a job! ;)) I needed to take my outfit pictures so I was walking around the Wilk (Wilkinson Center, the building that the BYU Bookstore is located) and planning on just taking pictures in the hallway until I came upon these rooms... Apparently they are called the President's Reception Room or something like that. SUPER FANCY! Nothing like the boring-ness of the Wilk! I was shocked! And also I was shocked that they left the doors open. I felt like I was invading some secret society's hiding place but no one was in there so I walked around and took pictures. Ha it was fun.

No, I didn't actually play it.. :( I was afraid it would be too loud and I didn't want to get in trouble!

I actually didn't like this outfit a ton as I was wearing it but now looking at it in the pictures I like it a ton more. Especially the pink! It's such a perfect bright color. :) Do I have to say anything else about the outfit? Because I don't really want to haha. Honestly I just don't know what else to say!

A Button-Up and Some Boots

I wore this outfit on Thursday I think? But it's being posted on Sunday just because. I think this weekend was a lazy weekend. Well maybe not. I wore cute stuff but I just didn't take pictures. Which actually, for me is super unusual. Even if I don't post them, I almost always take pictures. I still have some from like two weeks ago that I must post because I made the skirt! Next time I don't take pictures or don't wear a "cute enough outfit" (to my standards anyways) I will post that. It'll be soon friends, I promise.

Hmmm...not sure what else to say. Sundays are great. Don't you all love them? I think one of the best things about being LDS is the fact that you get to rest on Sundays. Some people complain about not being able to go to the store or not being able to do normal stuff on Sundays. And I definitely admit that I'm one of those people sometimes. But on days like today, I really appreciate the fact that we have to rest, even if it is forced. We all need some relaxation in our lives, no? So do me a favor and do something great for yourself today. Paint your nails, take a nap, cook, read, write in your journal, etc! And if you don't have time today make time this week. We will get exhausted and irritable if we don't learn to take care of ourselves every once in a while.

It's a Special Day

So before I say anything, I must say this...HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARRIE UNDERWOOD!!! She turns 27 today. And I really am kind of a big fan. Just kind of. :) Carrie Underwood is the person I could spend a day with if I could spend it with anyone. She's incredible. And so is her music! Check out the fan page here (no...I don't check it every day, not at all.. ;))

Anyways, you can never say enough about Carrie Underwood, but we'll move back to other topics again, shall we?

I've been thinking a lot about...stuff. And life in general. And fashion. It's weird how different things happen upon us isn't it? For most of my life I thought I was going to be a dancer and also a writer. I thought I was going to be an editor someday. But then fashion happened and changed my world. I can't help but love it and every time I post on this blog or re-fashion an old dress or read a style magazine, I know it's for me. I know it and love it. The great thing about this is that it's unique for all of us. Some of us cook. Others do photography. Others will become doctors (that draw blood--which is where I am right now and might possibly be passed out. Saying that I don't do well with needles is an understatement). And the even better thing is the fact that once we find our "thing," we share it with others. By, for instance, blogging. Or serving. Or writing about it. Or just making it part of our daily routines. Everyone has something. I promise. And if you don't know what that is, well, you'll find it. Honestly, I was unsure for a long time. I thought I was sure, but I always doubted myself and now I don't. What is your "thing" that you do and how do you share it? :)

A Dress Gone Wrong...Or Right?

I sincerely hope you guys are not sick of me wearing all these dresses that I keep refashioning. There's a poll at the bottom that I'd love if you guys would just vote so I can get some feedback on this. I've been really obsessed with getting old dresses from thrift stores and then refashioning them into something cute. But if it's really bugging you that I'm obsessed with this, then I want to know! And I also want to know if you like it! :) It definitely won't be like this every day..I think I might just be going through a phase haha.

So here's the story of today's dress...it looked like this before (I remembered to take a before picture this time!):

I had good intentions and completely meant to wear this dress as a dress. But sometimes life just doesn't turn out the way we want it to, now does it? ;) I fixed this one with my super speedy sewing skills in about half an hour. All I did was take in like 2 1/2 inches on the side and then I hemmed up a ton. But the hemming part obviously didn't work out as planned. I guess I was rushing a lot or something because after it was all hemmed, I put it on and it was WAY too short to be a dress. At least a modest one ha. But I had no time! So I put some pants on and changed it to a shirt instead. And it worked! I still got lots of compliments on it just like the other dresses and I think it looked cute. What do you think? Do you like it as a shirt or do you wish I hadn't messed up on the hemming and it was still a dress? I can't decide..

I think thrift stores are becoming my new Forever 21. I bought four more dresses today to refashion. Ah! I love it. I might have a little problem... ;)
