Miss Photographer

Sorry there are so many pictures! Okay, let's be honest, I'm not really sorry, because I had SO MUCH FUN taking these pictures! I found the railroad tracks and once I got started taking pictures I couldn't stop. It was super fun! I will never be a photographer, but I do love taking pictures and doing photography, so this blog is a great outlet for me to let that out every once in a while. I love the vintage feel of these pictures along with kind of the preppy look of the outfit. {Oh, the cardigan is black, although it may appear blue.}

The weather has been so perfect the past few days! Yesterday it didn't rain and there was a slight breeze but I felt fine in this outfit. And guess what?! If it's even possible, the weather is going to get perfect-er! Cuz it's going to be above 60 degrees today and tomorrow. And that is just simply amazing I tell you.

I've been into finding different artists than what I usually listen to (ahem, Carrie Underwood, cough cough) so that I can become more "musically cultured" and have more a range of music so that there will always be something for me to listen to for my mood. I just feel like I find genres and artists I like and then stick with just them. But there is so much music out there that I feel like I'm missing out on! Anyways, Mindy Gledhill has become one of my recent finds in artists. I particularly like the song called, "Whole Wide World" (I've been listening to it all day and it's still in my head!). I like songs that are inspirational and about dreams, because they just, well, inspire me! I want to go do something great after listening to them. This song does that to me, so I thought I'd share it with you. :) {Pssst....the family featured in here and the two little girls running in the front are Stephanie Nielson's family from NieNie Dialogues! Cool!!}

These Shoes Make My LIFE

Saddle shoes. Two words that just bring joy to my heart and turn the corners of my mouth into a huge smile. When I was little, I loved these shoes. Loved is an understatement, believe me. I wore them all the time and they were my favorite shoes. So of course when mine got too small, I begged my mom to get me more. But though she searched for some, they were out of style, and therefore no saddle shoes for me. :(

And now, as a 19 year-old girl, I saw they came back in style and begged and begged my mom to get me these for Christmas. And voila! she did!!! What an amazing mom. She even ordered them online. And once again, I more than love them. They are comfy and cute and me. They remind me of the 50s, which is one of my favorite eras (see HERE) and they just make me happy, don't ask me why!

So that's the story of my amazing and wonderful saddle shoes. I would say "the end" but this is most definitely not the end of the story. It's just the beginning... :)

This Outfit Just Looks Like ME

Oh gosh I loved this outfit. So this post is really late but I've been busy and stressed. I went home over the weekend and left my laptop at school and these pictures were on the laptop. :/ And then I just never got around to it. But now I did, right?? :)

But really, isn't this a cute outfit? Also, I think it just screams my name because this is totally my style. I do love plaid and also I love casual shoes.

Speaking of the shoes....they killed my ankles because they rubbed against them all day and I got blisters that are still healing. Jeez! :( But the shoes looked good right? Beauty is pain I guess haha.

I don't know if I have a favorite part of this outfit, but I just really love how it all looks together as a whole. I love outfits like that. :)

Falling in Love All Over Again

I'm tired, but I'll just write a few short words....

I think I'm falling in love...with this blog again! I kind of went through a funk but I'm back and stronger than ever. I seriously love this blog and thanks so much to everyone and anyone that reads it.

This outfit was a surprise today. I was going to wear just the plaid shirt with the boots but realizing how boring that was, I added the cardigan and belt, and voila! A much cuter outfit :) Sadly, this cardigan is a little small because  I put it in the dryer when it was being washed, but it still worked for this outfit. I won't be able to wear it as much though. :(

I think I found my new favorite fashion blog today. It's seriously so cute. Go to The Daybook and you'll get addicted because it's just one of those fun blogs you can't stop looking at.

15 days to Break, 24 to Christmas. Can't. Wait. :)

I'm Obsessed

Obviously I'm obsessed with purple and plaid...or purple plaid!! Haha it's funny how much I have of it because I didn't even realize it (take a look here and here for other purple plaid days).

Can I just say that I LOVE my job?! In case you didn't know, I work in the Women's clothing section of the BYU Bookstore. Today we got so many new clothes and I just wanted to own them all! I had a crazy fun day organizing all the new hats, scarfs, shirts, and jackets that we got..and I didn't even get done! It was just so fun and honestly I probably would have done it all for free just because I loved it. :) Probably one of the best parts of working in women's clothing is that since I obviously can't buy all the clothes, I can at least make it look cute by dressing the mannequins or the walls with whatever clothes I want all the time. It's great.

I vote it's time for the rain to go away! It's rained every single day this week and I would just love some sunshine. But at least it gave me a good excuse to wear this awesome rain jacket. I don't wear it very often but it's a pretty good one. Sadly, it seems like I always wear these shoes in the rain and they never fare well. The tops always get wet somehow and then it kind of looks funny, as you can see in the shoe picture above. They're actually supposed to look like they do in this post. Oh well...the outfit still looks pretty good anyways. :)

Purple Plaid and DIY Fabric Flowers

I like this dress. Because I can look so cute and girly but still look pretty classy. I think the purse went great with the ensemble as well! I'm so happy I picked it up yesterday at the yard sale...definitely worth it. :)

AND, as promised, I have a flower tutorial for you today! I'm going to show how to make a cute rosette-type flower.

For this, you'll need:

• A needle and thread (doesn't matter what color because it won't show)
• 2-inch thick strip of cotton-y fabric 10-12 inches long--I just used fabric from an old t-shirt because I had no other fabric and it's the perfect material
• A hot glue gun
• Needles to pin the fabric (optional)

So first I cut out my strip of fabric from a t-shirt. I just used an old yellow one I had.

After cutting out the strip, fold it vertically in half. If your fabric isn't as easy to fold over, I would recommend pinning it so it stays in place. My material folded over and stayed together really well so this wasn't necessary for me.

Once you have the fabric folded over, take your needle thread it, tying a knot at the end. Hand stitch your thread through the open side of the fabric, about 1/8 of an inch from the edge. Just stitch it over and under doing fairly big stitches.

When you get to the other end it should look like this. Don't tie a knot with the thread yet!

Now, you're going to gather the flower together. Pull the flower down the thread until it's gathered neatly together like below. Careful though, not to pull too hard or you'll break your thread. I accidentally broke my thread and then I had to thread the whole fabric again. Not fun. :P When it's all gathered together, then tie a double knot as tight as you can on the end.

Now, take your glue gun and start at either end of the flower and start putting glue along the cinched part and then rolling the flower along the glue. It's hard to explain, but the picture kind of shows it better.

Once you have wrapped the flower all the way around, turn it over and cut out a small circle from your fabric to cover the bottom of the flower so none of the stitching or glue shows. Glue the circle on with your hot glue gun.

All done! You can hot glue the flower to a headband, bobby pin, barrette, or pin, depending on how you want to wear it. The possibilities are endless!
