Back to Blogging

Soooo...I haven’t blogged for a month. Haha. Here’s my life summary for the past 30 days…

That night was the party I’d been planning for over a month. It turned out to be a huge success. I decorated when I got back from work, putting cobwebs all over our back patio, setting up a banner, and hanging lights all across. It looked really pretty and I was happy with the result. I made a lot of food for it and had little signs for each of the food items. I had to go to work at 5 so my roommates helped me with making the rest of the food which was great. Party guests started arriving at 9 and by 10 pm, our back patio was super crowded. I was going back and forth replenishing the food and I had to keep pushing my way through everyone because there were so many people there. Someone in our ward brought over gigantic speakers so the music was blasting and everyone was dancing. It was seriously so fun! All the people that came (and out of those people, a lot of them I didn’t know because they were friends of friends. There were some of my friends I saw later in the pictures who I hadn’t even seen there!) told me they had so much fun. Successful night? Yes. Party throwing can be really stressful sometimes and the day of the party when I’m getting everything ready I tend to get super stressed out and wonder why I’m even throwing a party. But then it happens, it’s so fun, and I remember why throwing parties is one of the greatest things ever.

November came and was a busy month. Most of it was spent being busy with school, but the good parts were with family and friends. I went to my really good friend Sam's mission farewell. This girl is one of my best friends and as much as I'll miss her, she's going to do great in the California Palo Alto mission! I went with Lauren, another one of my really good friends, who also just got her mission call and is going to the California San Fernando mission! :)
(l to r): me, Sam, Lauren
The Nutcracker came around again, and this year my sister Sidney was the only one in it. At one point in life, Carina, Sidney, Cee Ryle, and I were all in the Nutcracker and I’m pretty sure that year drove my parents crazy. Sidney did awesome though, she had three great parts as a Snow, Reed Flute, and a Waltz. She’s seriously a gorgeous dancer, so much better than I ever was, and I can’t help but be proud of her and be happy whenever I see her dancing. She definitely comes alive on the stage.

Thanksgiving was a wonderful and much needed break. My dad’s side of the family all came from Wyoming so we had a full house of cousins and aunts and uncles. It was the best. We spent a lot of our time making a music video to none other than Gangnam Style of course (which almost has a billion views on youtube!). On Thanksgiving day we got the whole family, adults and all, outside to dance. Haha and our yard happens to be right on the edge of the road, so cars passed by as we were dancing to Gangnam Style. Our neighbors might think we’re crazy…oh well. You can see the video here.

We also spent Thanksgiving just hanging out, going to temple square, and shopping on black Friday of course.

My roommates and I had a little cookie making/tree decorating party with a few friends. We also made a nativity reenactment haha (sorry for the blurry photos).
I went to the Killers concert with Chelsey and some other friends. It was a really great concert—everything you’d want a Killers concert to be and more.

Bridal Shower for my freshman roommate Kelly!

A little over a week after Thanksgiving, I went on a quick 3-day trip to Boston and New York. We got to fly standby since my aunt works for Jet Blue. It was the BEST. I was in Boston over the summer and just love the east coast, so going back for a few days was heaven. Boston was spent hanging out with family and shopping, mostly. My favorite part of the trip was our day in New York. We did so much fun stuff. This is something that definitely deserves a post of its own so I’ll write more about it later.

Kelly’s bachelorette party, spent painting nails, giving each other massages, eating yummy food, and talking about boys of course.

After that it was basically finals week. In the midst of all the business, I got sick with a cold on the first reading day. I get sick a lot, so I wasn’t surprised, but I still will never get used to the unpleasantness of being sick. Thankfully the worst of it was over by the time I had to start taking finals (which are now done, yay!!!).

No pictures of this either, unfortunately, but I got together with my best friends last weekend. It was the best because we hadn’t all been together since April! We keep in touch a lot though so it felt like nothing had changed. We’re going to be starting a blog together here soon, and I’ll let you know when it’s up. Right now we are planning everything about it and still trying to figure out a name.

Last week my roommates and I hung out (the first time all of us have hung out together this whole semester, sadly) to celebrate finals. We went to the mall and got tons of cute clothes, ate at Pizza Pie CafĂ©, and finished the night by watching Step Up Revolution. I love my roommates. I’m seriously so lucky to live with the coolest and nicest girls ever.

That’s the update and now that school’s done for now and everything is caught up, expect more regular posts. Blogging can be so much work sometimes! Love it though. :)

Slices of Life

Me and my best friend Kuddles. I tell her everything and must sleep with her. We're pretty tight. ;)

Pinwheel cupcakes to eat at work for Cara's birthday. (how to do them here)
(Oops, I totally dropped a whole egg in the batter while making them)
Psychadelic :)
Going to Cara's birthday party that night to eat cinnamon rolls and socialize. Love these beautiful ladies I work with!

One night Olivia was french braiding Kelsey's short hair and it looked dinosaurish or like a little mullet because it was so small...needless to say, the laughing came easily.

Going to Cee Ryle's last gymnastics meet before State (which I won't be able to go to, unfortunately). Gracie played around and had me take lots of pictures of her. Cee Ryle did awesome at his meet and got first place on parallel bars!

After the meet I went with my family and extended relatives to eat at Chick-Fil-A and then to the dollar theater and saw "We Bought a Zoo." It's a tear-jerker and a heart-warmer. Definitely a must see!

Cute outfit of the day..purple tights! :)

My roommates were on a water polo team (I was on it too, but I never played because I was always busy so the few times I went I was the cheerleader) and this was after their last game! They win the award for...best sportsmanship ;)

Oh and one more thing. I'm in the top ten for the Sewvivor competition! Totally didn't see that one coming but I am super excited!! I wrote more about it here and you can also click on the button below to read more.

And those are just a few happenstances of life as of late. I like recording all the small things that occur in the week. :)

Pinterest Friday: Nutella No-Bake Cookies

I believe there are two types of people in this world: those who use pinterest and those who don't. And then, you can divide the people who use pinterest into two more groups: those who apply pinterest to their lives and those who use it as a hobby. I think a lot of us fall into the "hobby" category of this, but every once in a while, I try doing something cool and actually do something on one of my boards. Well yesterday, I used this pin to make these delicious cookies.

Mmm! They turned out SO darn good! They look exactly like regular no-bake cookies but they are so much better because of the nutella! It's not like an overpowering flavor of nutella, but it's enough to make you know its there and say, "Wow."

We're having a work Christmas party today so I needed something to bring and share. I wanted to make something incredible, but with finals and everything it just wasn't going to happen. But I luckily found this recipe on my pinterest board and realized I already had all the ingredients! Of course I'm pretty much out of all the ingredients I used for this now...but that doesn't matter, right? At least I have some delicious cookies :)

So here's the recipe I used as follows:

No-Bake Nutella Peanut Butter CookiesYields approximately 2 dozen cookies (recipe can be doubled for a crowd)
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup peanut or hazelnut butter
3/4 cup Nutella hazelnut spread (or 1 cup chocolate chips)
2 cups rolled oats
In a medium to large saucepan, melt the butter over medium to medium-low heat. Add the sugar, milk, and cocoa powder and mix until combined. Stir in the peanut butter and Nutella until melted, followed by the oats. Continue mixing until all of the ingredients are incorporated. Reduce heat to lowest setting.
Working quickly, use a spring-form ice cream scoop to shape balls of dough and place them on a parchment-lined sheet pan. Refrigerate for thirty minutes until firm. Store in an airtight container.

(Sidenote: I doubled my recipe, didn't use the hazelnut liqueur from the original, and I didn't have to refridgerate mine--they harden pretty fast once you remove them from the heat)
first bite out of the cookie...yummy!
So all I have to say about these is that...you should make them! They probably won't change your life, but I don't think they're really gonna hinder it at either. They'll just make an okay day that much better. I like that they are easy to make and they also use ingredients that most people already have lying around. So what are you sitting around reading this?! Go make some cookies!

P.S. Can I just have a here-here! for the fact that my little kodak easy share took these sweet pictures? Here-here!! (thanks :))

Procrastinating, Poor Health, and Pinterest

I took these pictures back during Labor Day weekend and they make me want a nice camera sooo bad! It's so fun to take pictures and I want to learn how to do better ones...someday. *sigh*

School and life are so busy! I really have not had time to blog and technically don't have time right now, but me and my best friend Procrastination are putting off a paper and blogging seemed like the perfect excuse. ;) But I really love my classes..when I'm healthy enough to go them! I've been sick since last Thursday which totally stinks! I think it's a cold. It started out with a sore throat and a runny nose, then a gained a cough and an achy body and just feeling sick overall, and then I also lost my voice. And I had two dates last week but I had to unfortunately postpone them because I just was not feeling up to it. My voice has been terribly croaky since Saturday (so imagine this post being read in a voice that sounds like a girl with a man voice..if that makes sense haha) and I was feeling better Monday and yesterday but I feel worse today with a sore throat and runny nose again. Ah! I'm ready to be healthy again!! Anyways, sorry for the vent.

In other news, I haven't sewn since school started (no time :( sooooo sad), last night I bakes some quick nutella cookies and parmesan knots (both found from pinterest) that both tasted delish and today I made some Nutella hot cocoa (also found on pinterest) that was alright but not as amazing as I hoped. Pinterest is pretty darn great I'd have to say. Want an invite? Comment and leave me your email address and I'll send you one. And then add me!!

Wish me luck on writing this paper! Any good tips on getting rid of a cold? Anyone want to write a paper..? (just kidding..well kind of...ok, really though, I'm kidding!) ;)

A Sunny Sunday

Yesterday was a wonderful Sunday! I made my yummy chocolate chip cookies and my roommates and me made twice-baked potatoes for lunch/dinner (soooooo goood!). Then we went to the park and flew a kite, I took a little nap on my blanket, and we mostly just basked in the wonderful sunshine (and wind). Oh and I also had a cute dress on that I refashioned which just made the day THAT much better. Soooo great. :)

Lots of cookies :) and this was only about half!
